ABOUT US: Heuvelmans Interiors has been manufacturing, since 1980, hand crafted BRONZE masterpieces - made by artists and specialists of brass castings and gilt craftsmen. These passionate artisans have excelled in their craft for many years. Their knowledge, passed on to younger colleagues, learning while working with masters of the fine art. This tradition assures a high level of quality products, for many generations to come. Jan Heuvelmans is always traveling the world, finding new inspiration and obtaining wide ranges of items for new masterpieces. PROCESS: The entire process starts at the foundry. There are two traditional methods to prepare a new piece - by sand casting and the lost-wax method. Heuvelmans Interiors only works with the lost-wax method. This is the most complicated method, but the results are outstanding!!! This process takes several days. In the beginning, a silicone mold is created and filled with hot wax. When the wax sets, the master form is taken out and set on a special stand. This form is covered by special ceramics. The wax is melted away and the ceramic mold is then fired in special ovens. Molten Brass is then poured into the ceramic mold, cooled, and the mold is broken away. The Brass form is chiseled by specialists with special cold chisels, and finished with various designs and textures. These handmade tools, are created for various effects, through many years of experience. Some artisans have collections of several hundred tools. The pieces are then burnished and gilded by specialists (Maitres Argenteurs Paris) with 24 carat gold. Some elements are oxidized with different acids to get different colors, from green to brown and black patina. Semi-precious stones and other artistic embellishments are then added to create unique, hand-made works of artistic accomplishment.
